Guardian Industries, LLC has an opening for a Manufacturing Excellence Engineer in Carleton, Michigan. 40 hrs/wk; 8am -5pm.
Responsibilities: Assigned to Manufacturing Excellence Group for the Americas. Responsible for working with operations of Sputter Coaters and thin film coating stacks; quality control and testing carried out to validate our coatings and understand the correlation between setup of coatings and quality control tests; developing Best Practices for the operations of our coaters, setup of coatings and testing mechanisms; helping deploy best practices though the eight coaters in the region; troubleshooting operations or quality complaints from the field and helping deploy counter measures or improved processes to eliminate the root causes of these failures; transferring coatings from one location to another working closely with the plant, Science and Technology and the Quality Department in development of new coatings and their standards; working with engineers, Science & Technology, and Global Manufacturing Excellence team to innovate and improve performance of coatings and drive down costs while increasing performance; and working with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to help select, test and deploy upgrades to our hardware and stay ahead of the obsolescence curve.
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering or foreign degree equivalent, plus 4 years of experience in engineering positions. Experience must include: physical vapor deposition techniques, including magnetron sputtering and ion beam; vacuum systems and components, including vacuum chambers, vacuum pumps, pressure gauges, power supplies, mass spectrometers, mass flow controllers and oxygen sensors; instrumentation for thin films characterization including UV/Vis/IR Spectroscopy, Ellipsometry, microscopy and sheet resistivity measurements; materials characterization for wide wavelength range index of refraction and extinction coefficient dispersions; development of models for reverse engineering multilayered thin film stacks, based on optical measurements, using Optilayer and WVase 32 software; floated glass general properties and surface aspects; process capability analysis and other statistical tools for data analysis and continuous process improvement using Minitab or other statistical software; and root cause analysis and FMEA.
