TITLE: Maintenance Shift Supervisor
RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Manager, Maintenance
POSITION OUTLINE: The function of the DPM System Maintenance Shift Supervisor is to supervise the technical and non-technical personnel of the Maintenance Shop and to coordinate the activities associated with the DPM Maintenance effort As a Maintenance Shift Supervisor; this person provides the technical expertise necessary for an efficient and safe DPM System Maintenance effort.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the activities of a shift of maintenance personnel consisting of various technical skills, assuring the efficient utilization of this staff to accomplish scheduled events and activities. Supervises the activities of the maintenance personnel and emergency teams in response to unplanned or emergency events such as DPM System evacuation, vehicle recoveries, injured persons requiring first aid, fires, emergency repairs to structures and all other emergency repairs to the DPM System. Responsible for maintaining essential system integrity in times of declared emergency conditions. Maintains time records of all personnel assigned to shift, assists the Assistant Manager, Maintenance in selection and hiring of new technical personnel, assists Assistant Manager, Maintenance in periodic evaluation of employees, makes work assignments and evaluates the work effort of maintenance personnel assigned to shift. Acts on behalf of the Assistant Manager, Maintenance in matters relating to guideway access, purchase requisitions, overtime authorization, vacation and leave requests. Obtains and maintains task certification certificates as directed by the Assistant Manager, Maintenance. Assists in establishing equal or equivalent replacement of mechanical or electronic components. Supervises contractors' staff activities in accordance with system needs. Performs the incidental work described in other maintenance position descriptions for the DPM System. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Plans, coordinates and is responsible for troubleshooting, adjusting, calibration, testing, fabrications, preventive maintenance and quality of repairs to ensure dependable and safe operation of all equipment in the DPM System. Interprets maintenance manuals, blueprints, schematics and drawings and prepares drawing or schematics to communicate with others in the performance of work. Accounts for all materials used in performance of the Maintenance effort. Responsible for safety of all maintenance personnel, vehicles and visitors. Functions as a passenger-vehicle and recovery-vehicle operator and makes on-the-spot evaluation of anomalous vehicle and guideway conditions as required. Must be certified as a QRP and Train Driver Instructor. Assist Assistant Manager in providing proposal to continually upgrade the state of the DPM System.
Plans Coordinates and carries out technical training programs. Represents the Maintenance Shop when assigned. Recommends to Assistant Manager, Maintenance for hardware and procedural changes. Releases vehicles and/or other systems that have been removed for repair or servicing to operations for return to DPM System operating service.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Understanding of the theory and proficiency in the use of standard electronic and mechanical test equipment and sophisticated test equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, complex electronic schematics, and understanding of microprocessor circuits and techniques. In depth knowledge and experience with materials, methods, tools, hazards, safety practices, design modifications, construction techniques as well as maintenance procedures. Knowledge and experience of power distribution, track work, safety standards, civil structures, printed circuit board soldering and wire wrap techniques.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of high school education and equivalent. Completion of approximately seventy-two (72) weeks or equivalent of vocation or military school in Electronic Systems Theory, Operations and Maintenance. At least one (1) year Supervisory experience. Other combinations of equivalent education and experience may be considered,
Shift work; valid driver’s license; must pass a complete physical examination. Maintains certification/re-certification of DPM task requirements. Must be resident of the City of Detroit prior to beginning employment with the Corporation. Domicile within the City of Detroit is a condition of continued employment.
